Lockdown Blues

Long time ago I had heard a theory about the great catastrophe which will strike the globe, and everything will end in 2020, and suddenly covid-19 happened – quarantine, lock-down, isolation, social distancing and what not. I believed 2020 is going to be my year of travel with my mum who was expected to visit me in summer. I was saving money and planning trips. Little did i know then, that these plans had to wait.
When lock-down started, I was so excited that I’ve got the privilege to work from home and wasted a lot of time scrolling through Instagram, watching a lot of series/ movies on Netflix/ prime and playing ludo, PUBG and other online games.
However, lately I have been in a weird headspace and watching so much news online about – covid-19, Amphan cyclone, George Floyd’s death, protests, migrant labor’s distress have disturbed me immensely. High five if you too are feeling the blues. I also find it so strange when some people use this lockdown period to see who really cares and checks on them. There is so much scary information coming out everyday causing panic and uncertainty. Everyone is confused and disoriented. But don’t fret, as we all are sailing in the same boat. Remember your actions affect everyone around you. If the majority of us keep a calm head and fearless heart, it’ll help a lot of us. Understand that we are all addressing an unimaginable situation. Not everyone is in a space to constantly check and remind you how important you are. Take it easy and cut some slack to everyone around you.
I read this beautiful quote which adds to the theme of what I am trying to say – “This is for everyone who tries to learn, who tries to grow, who tries to respond kindly and wisely, tries to recognise their own issues instead of blaming everyone else. This is for everyone who tries to be their best even when they’re not feeling their best. I see you. I appreciate you and I hope you know you make the world a better place just by being you – Lori Deschene.” Here’s the deal – you’ll only delay confronting yourself till a point and then you will have to figure out what’s going on, in that head of yours. Hang in there and heal so that you don’t ever have to give a sarcastic tone to uplifting messages and never should make anyone else the subject of your own frustation. Also, when someone says they care for you, allow yourself to believe them and just try to make this a year of self love.

If you have been feeling down and out lately, absolutely demotivated, jsut overall sad like your sabotaging your life, then remember the sole person you can change, fix, adjust, help or save is yourself. Pray, meditate, read books, get rest, exercise, dance , meet your shadows, post content online, learn a brand new skill if you wish to and heal. Very importantly, don’t stress yourself. Replace your judgments with empathy and upgrade your complaining attitude to gratitude. Connect with all of your old friends, write them long emails and check on yourself too. Sometimes the smallest act of affection can make way to someone’s heart and prove to be a booster.
Stay safe.
P.S. Shoutout to a dear friend for encouraging me to publish my thoughts. Thanks Neha. Also, grateful to all my near and dear ones who try their best to check on me.

Nice Nidhi, it's very nice to see you writing down your thoughts. I feel the same and totally agree this is the best time to learn new skill, workout, focus on health and yourself. I wish your mom's trip happens sooner and more than that, I wish you stay safe and take care. Love
